Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda has taken swift action by issuing a notice to Bengal BJP leader Dilip Ghosh following his controversial remarks directed at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The notice seeks clarification from Ghosh regarding his comments, deeming them indecent, unparliamentary, and contrary to the party’s values and principles. A letter from the BJP emphasizes the party’s strong condemnation of such statements and requests an explanation from Ghosh on the matter.
In response to the notice, Dilip Ghosh addressed reporters, acknowledging that this wasn’t the first time his statements had stirred controversy. He asserted that his outspokenness often brings him into conflict with those perpetrating injustices. While Ghosh expressed regret if his language was deemed unparliamentary, he affirmed his intention to provide an official response to the notice.
Earlier, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against Dilip Ghosh for his alleged derogatory remarks aimed at Mamata Banerjee. The TMC accused Ghosh of violating the Model Code of Conduct by making personal attacks. The BJP MP’s comments, wherein he questioned Mamata Banerjee’s identification of her father, sparked further controversy.
Dilip Ghosh’s remarks, made during a press briefing in Durgapur, referenced Mamata Banerjee’s habit of identifying herself as the daughter of whichever state she visits. Ghosh’s statement insinuated that Banerjee should first acknowledge her own father’s identity before making such claims elsewhere.
Citing provisions within the poll code that prohibit attacks on personal lives or statements that could be construed as malicious or offensive, the TMC urged the ECI to take immediate action against Dilip Ghosh. The party emphasized the need for accountability and adherence to ethical standards, particularly in the context of electoral discourse.
As the situation unfolds, the exchange between the BJP and the TMC underscores the heightened political tensions in West Bengal. The controversy surrounding Dilip Ghosh’s remarks highlights the delicate balance between free speech and responsible rhetoric in the realm of politics, prompting calls for accountability and respectful discourse from all parties involved.
