“He is the Upcoming MS Dhoni”: Former Indian Cricketer’s Immense Commendation for Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has come in for high praise from former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, who has lauded the leadership skills of the Mumbai cricketer. Raina even went to compare him with the ever-successful Indian captain MS Dhoni. The Indian cricket team, led by Rohit, recently won their five-Test series against England with a game in hand. India were 0-1 behind and then made a fantastic comeback. Rohit and Co. bagged a hat-trick of matches against the Three Lions to keep India’s home dominance intact. It was India’s 17th consecutive series win on their own soil.

“He’s the next MS Dhoni. He has done well. He has been giving a lot of chances to youngsters the way MS Dhoni did. I played a lot of cricket under MS Dhoni. Sourav Ganguly supported his team a lot. Then MS Dhoni came and led from the front. Rohit is going in the right direction. He is a brilliant captain,” Raina told Times of India.

“He has been brilliant with his planning. He is managing really well and giving a lot of youngsters a chance. The way he is rotating the players is something I have never seen in the last couple of years. We have seen, whenever the fast bowlers come in, they pick up injuries in the last couple of years. But Rohit has been managing that really well.

Former captain Nasser Hussain on Monday said England should hold their heads high despite a chastening Test series loss to India because he believes Rohit Sharma’s men really are the worthy winners, possessing the skill and mental toughness to emerge victorious.

It was at the penultimate Test, played in Ranchi, that India won by five wickets to take an unassailable 2-1 lead and give England their first series loss in the ‘Bazball’ era.
